Hoops support

U.Va. students are missing out on one of the things that makes college life so terrific - attending basketball games.

Opinion

Renaisance men & Sixth man

Renaissance men Football coach Mike London's emphasis on fostering players' academic and personal development fits neatly with the University's core values It has been a month and a half since Mike London took over as Virginia's head football coach, and the process of building his first staff is nearly complete.

Opinion

Securing the skies

America's airport security is a failure, and a complete failure at that. One would think that after the disastrous events of 9/11, our country should be at the global cutting edge of airport security.

Opinion

The full ticket

The Board of Visitors ended its nearly six-month-long search for the University's eighth president Jan.

Opinion

Change your expectations

Happy Birthday Obama administration! You have been in power for over a year and in the words of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, you certainly haven't "let a good crisis go to waste." You continued a government spending spree that would make a Hollywood heiress blush with embarrassment.

Opinion

Dare to dream

Governor Bob McDonnell resolves to reverse the decades-long trend of underfunding Virginia's public colleges, pledging to work with the General Assembly to devote resources to state schools on par with other top public systems, such those in California and North Carolina.

Opinion

Driving dilemma

I think we all remember how tough not having a car on Grounds was first year, and some of us (me included) as upperclassmen still don't have the luxury of having a car to drive whenever we need to go to Barracks or anywhere down Route 29.

Opinion

Change is coming

It was time. We all knew it. Coach Al Groh knew it, evidenced by his prepared remarks. The players knew it, publicly stating that they practiced harder this week in order to send their coach off with one final win.

Opinion

Ay, democracia

You've got to hand it to Central America. Only a few countries south of our border have packed an entire century with enough coups, puppet governments, and military regime changes to fill half of a library's worth of history.

Opinion

Unwarranted criticism

I would like to assure George Pisano ("Keeping the record straight," Dec. 1) that there was nothing blatantly misrepresentative about my criticism of his comments on the Stupak amendment.

Opinion

Signing up

I submit this letter to you on behalf of the Fiesta Society at the University of Virginia, to whom I am greatly indebted.

Opinion

UVAirBust & Acting on pledges

UVAirBust Student Council's initial statements about UVAirBus service during Winter Break caused unnecessary confusion In the days immediately preceding and following Thanksgiving Break, Student Council's Student Life Committee launched its new UVAirBus program with great success.

Opinion

Famoulsy Pathetic

When contemplating nearly impossible feats, hacking the CIA database and successfully outwitting the Secret Service may come to mind.

Opinion

Measuring for success

With more and more first-year babies each year and an increased need for qualified resident advisors, it has become exceedingly difficult for the Resident Staff selection process to properly choose new RAs.

Opinion

Tough love

With the passage of the Thanksgiving holiday, most Americans feel their jeans tugging a little tighter on their waistlines.

Opinion

God and the state

Adherents to religious traditions believe that they are members of a divine community that transcends any earthly, political community.

Opinion

Not a minor concern

As a fourth-year in the College, I am writing to enlist your support for a very grave issue. Recently there has been an affront against the student body.

Opinion

Taking flight

On Sept. 1, the Spanish department issued a moratorium on the Spanish minor, citing that "minors compete for courses with majors who need the courses to graduate." Throughout the semester, that decision has spurred a large degree of community discussion about what impact such a move has on the student body. It is highly encouraging that a portion of this discussion has moved onto Student Council's Speak Up UVA Web site, an online forum for students to publicly voice and vote on their concerns about the University.

Opinion

Student-soliders

While football at the University may have been disappointing this season, Virginia fans can breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to one upcoming game in which no American can truly be disappointed, regardless of the outcome.

Opinion

A healthy rivalry

"What do a University student and a Virginia Tech student have in common?" My friend inquired this last Saturday as we walked to the final football game of the season.
