A referendum demands that the University audit its investment portfolio to identify any connections to companies engaging in or profiting from what the sponsors call “the State of Israel’s apartheid regime and acute violence against Palestinians.”
The University administration selected Bonner for the role of VPSA last semester, where he replaced Interim VPSA Christopher Holstege.
The meeting provided a free Roots dinner for meeting attendees, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of Honor's structure and function amongst the student body.
The UJC typically deals with a few hazing cases each year, having recently found several student organizations guilty of hazing misconduct.
While the committee has access to sanctions ranging from oral admonitions to expulsion, reflective essays are the most common punishment.
A new element in the multi-sanction system, the course is designed to initiate dialogues on the principles of Honor, offering students a platform to reaffirm their commitment to the University community.
From May 12 to Dec. 17, 27 reports were filed with the Committee, with 11 currently under investigation.
Brian Ng, first-year College student representative, said he wrote and proposed the resolution as a response to first-year constituents voicing concerns about their safety.
The Honor Committee met to pass four new bylaw changes to improve the multi-sanction system after its first semester of implementation.
The new approved budget increases overall allocations by 34 percent.
The Representative Body was scheduled to meet Tuesday to present the proposed amended budget, but did not reach quorum.
In light of this new third source of funding, Sims will present an amended annual budget to total around $450,000.
Current Virginia state law limits the role of Board’s student representative, stating that the board of visitors for any public higher education institution may only include students in nonvoting, advisory roles.
Elections were held this month through the University Board of Elections, with results released Oct. 12.
The current proposal consists of creating a private source of funding of $5 million in one time fundraising.
While the Board of Visitors will also need to sign off on the $1 increase at their next meeting, Sims said she was optimistic about their approval.
While the program specifically targets Muslim students, any student or faculty member can take advantage of it, according to Arkhanous and Kamal.
Sims said this increase would account for inflation and meet growing demands from CIOs for funding.
Robertson specifically mentioned concerns about Student Council’s ability to secure enough resources to fund its initiatives due to the administrative turnover.
