One of the Cavaliers' few bright spots Thursday night, sophomore forward Aliyah Huland El contributed 15 points and a team-high 6 boards. It was her first time in double digits since Jan. 17 at Georgia Tech.

Syracuse overwhelms Cavaliers, 91-57

In a microcosm of 40 dismal minutes Thursday, the Virginia women’s basketball team (13-12, 3-8 ACC) cracked twice in a row under Syracuse’s full-court pressure and let the Orange jump out to a 7-0 lead less than one minute into the first quarter.


Sophomore floor general Mikayla Venson averages 15.1 points per game to  lead Virginia but scored only eight on 14 shots in the loss to Virginia  Tech.

Virginia will have its work cut out for itself on the defensive end. Any offense that shares the basketball and can operate around multiples scorers like Syracuse’s is difficult to stop.

Reloaded women’s lacrosse embarks on 2016 campaign

Last year’s Virginia women’s lacrosse team was one of the most talented teams in the country. Having four All-American players, the Cavaliers were ranked nationally in the top 10 the entire season and advanced to the final 16 of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse tournament.


Senior Evan Nolte scored four points against Virginia Tech Tuesday, earning plenty of cheers from the crowd at John Paul Jones Arena.
