Young, DMR deliver in Arkansas

Six athletes from the men’s Cavalier track and field team competed in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the NCAA Indoor Championships over the weekend. At the end of competition, Virginia found itself in 23rd place – the top finish among ACC schools.


Sophomore goalie Matt Barrett qualifies as a veteran on the youthful Virginia defense. He is currently eighth in the country in saves per game (13.25).

Through a combination of graduations, transfers and injuries, the Virginia men’s lacrosse team lost virtually every regular from 2014’s defense. The lone holdover is sophomore goalie Matt Barrett, who had his share of struggles a year ago.

Late run pushes Virginia past Harvard

The No.8 Virginia women’s lacrosse team opened its home schedule on Tuesday afternoon with a 13-9 victory against Harvard. Down one goal with 14:27 remaining in the game, the Cavaliers (3-2, 0-1 ACC) went on a 5-0 run to secure its second straight win of the season.

Dating back to 1984, Virginia has had a player selected in the NFL draft for 31 consecutive seasons. And in 2015 — with the likes of Eli Harold, Max Valles and Anthony Harris headlining a list of 18 draft eligible alumni — the streak is sure to continue to 32 years.

Last-Second Goal Lifts No. 8 Women's Lacrosse past Penn State

With four seconds remaining in the game, Virginia senior attacker Casey Bocklett scored a goal to seal the 16-15 victory for the eighth-ranked Cavaliers over No.9 Penn State Saturday afternoon, closing out their season-opening road trip. Virginia had previously lost to No. 3 Syracuse and No. 5 Northwestern by one goal apiece.
