Women's soccer looks to remain undefeated Friday

Third-ranked Virginia women’s soccer hit the ground running this season, picking up right where the team left off last year. This weekend, the Cavaliers look to continue their strong play when they play host to Richmond in the second game of the team’s season-opening, three-game home stand.

While the 2013 season was one of the strongest in the history of Virginia cross country, it was only a piece of a larger puzzle. This season, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams return deeper and more experienced — and appear poised for another successful year.

Lambert, running backs lead offensive returners

Coming off a disappointing 2-10 season, the Virginia football team has much room for an improvement heading into the 2014 campaign. The Cavaliers hope that a slew of returning skill position players will give the offense a much-needed spark to earn the program its first winning season since coach Mike London’s inaugural year.

After two strong preseason wins against Michigan State and VCU, the Virginia women’s soccer team opened its regular season campaign with a thoroughly dominant 3-0 win against the Marshall Thundering Herd (0-0-1) in the first-ever matchup between the two teams.

With the great success of our athletics department last year — in the Directors’ Cup standings, which ranks Division I schools by their top-10 finishes in both men’s and women’s sports, Virginia finished fourth — it’s hard not be excited about what the 2014-15 year holds.
