Ignoring the ribbons

That’s what the voice in my head has always told me, at least. In this last decade and a half — as an athlete, a student and a human being — the fear of the humiliation associated with those green ribbons has compelled me to constantly seek the blue ribbon of triumph. Blue means the applause of others; blue means validation.
