Women's club polo, basketball win titles

Throughout the entire 2012-13 sports season, none of Virginia’s 25 varsity programs have captured a national championship, but within an eight-day span, two of the school’s club teams did the trick. After the women’s polo team ousted Cornell for its second straight national championship April 13, the women’s basketball club survived a mercurial affair with Penn State to claim the national crown this past Sunday. Held in Brookshire, Texas, the USPA National Intercollegiate Polo Championship pitted Virginia against the nemesis Big Red in the final.

Cavaliers aim to uphold rich history

The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inducted five men as its inaugural class in 1957. In fact, in each of the Hall’s first 35 years of existence, only men joined the sport’s most cherished institution.

Baseball: No. 5 Cavs aim to avoid midweek hiccups

After a historic three-game sweep of Florida State, the No. 5 Virginia baseball team looks to continue its success as it hosts Richmond and James Madison in two midweek games. The weekend series against the Seminoles saw one of the most complete performances the Cavaliers (35-6, 16-5 ACC) have put together all season.

The No. 17 Virginia women’s tennis team ended the regular season on a high note, earning two victories against quality ACC opponents. The Cavaliers shut out No. 32 Florida State Saturday and beat No. 10 Miami 4-1 Sunday.

With her father looking on and a Boston Red Sox bracelet around her left wrist, the Shrewsbury, Mass. native claimed the first ACC Women’s Golf individual championship in Cavalier history with a 4-over 217 at Sedgefield Country Club Sunday.

Cavaliers compete at ACC track championships

The Virginia men’s and women’s track teams competed this weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina at the ACC Championships. The action concluded Saturday with the Cavalier women in a tie for fourth place with 76 points and the men in sixth place with 63 points.

No. 8 baseball tops Old Dominion in thriller

Sophomore outfielder Mike Papi hit a game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning and redshirt senior first baseman Jared King came through with a walk-off hit in the tenth, leading Virginia (32-6, 13-5 ACC) to a whirlwind 10-9 win against Old Dominion (18-18, 8-10 CAA).

No. 16 women's lacrosse tops Hokies in season finale

Before the opening draw control Wednesday evening against Virginia Tech, the Virginia women’s lacrosse team’s six seniors—attacker Caroline McTiernan, midfielders Annie Thomas and Erin Laschinger, defenders Megan Dunleavy and Lelan Bailey, and goalkeeper Kim Kolarik—stood with their parents on the grass of Klöckner Stadium.

No. 8 baseball seeks to end skid against Old Dominion

The No. 8 Virginia baseball team entered last Wednesday with a 30-3 record, overpowering its competition and tearing through the ACC. One week later, the Cavaliers have doubled that loss total, dropping three of their last four games against Radford and No. 15 Georgia Tech. Wednesday, they look to right the ship against Old Dominion at Davenport Field.
