Cavaliers look to bounce back against Tech

After finishing this weekend's Jefferson Cup Tournament with one win and two losses, the Virginia women's volleyball team will look to even its record against rival Virginia Tech (1-2) at University Hall tonight. Last year Virginia Tech competed as independents and finished the season 13-16.

Cavs still need work heading into off week

In his weekly press conference, Virginia coach Al Groh stressed that the Cavaliers must work on punt returns and pass protection. Groh said that Virginia must cut down on penalties if they are to compete in every game. "I was very unhappy with the number of penalties," Groh said.

With the Virginia football team escaping what would have been an embarrassing loss to I-AA Richmond, coach Al Groh knows how fortunate the Cavaliers are to have defeated the Spiders. Virginia women's soccer senior co-captain Lori Lindsey wasted little time making a case for her second ACC player of the year award Saturday in the Cavaliers' 3-0 win over Mississippi. Cavaliers barely escape Spiders' rally in home opener

Virginia football coach Al Groh promised that his Cavaliers would be exciting to watch. He kept his word on Saturday. After a 36-yard David Greene field goal put Virginia comfortably ahead, 17-0, with 20 minutes left to play, the Cavaliers almost fumbled their way to a loss and narrowly escaped Scott Stadium with a 17-16 win over Richmond. "We're pleased to have won," Groh said.
