Randolph seals win on senior night, 72-68

With her final game at John Paul Jones Arena in jeopardy of ending in a loss Thursday, senior guard Faith Randolph made two plays down the stretch that willed her Virginia women’s basketball team to victory over North Carolina, 72-68.


Senior attacker Kelly Boyd and her twin sister, Brooke, have been playing lacrosse together since kindergarden. The decision to attend Virginia together was an easy one for both.

Two is better than one

For lots of kids, sports is a place to meet your best friend. This wasn’t the case for Kelly and Brooke. They had been best friends for around five years by the time they picked up their first lacrosse sticks in kindergarten.


Senior forward Anthony Gill is in the midst of a forgettable February slump. Gill is averaging only nine points in six February contests.

Men’s basketball clashes with No. 7 North Carolina

The ACC has not seen a regular season three-peat since North Carolina did so between 2007 and 2009. For No. 3 Virginia, the hope of becoming just the ninth program to claim at least a share of the conference title in three straight seasons remains alive, but there is still serious work to do.


Put simply, senior center Mike Tobey needs to step up for Virginia when he's on the floor. The Monroe, NY native has both the size and touch to be a difference maker on the offensive end, but his two missed layups were costly Monday night.

Last Wednesday, I sat down with a couple of friends to watch Duke and Carolina hoop it up at the Dean Dome. My friends are from Greensboro and Charlotte, N.C., respectively, and “Duke hatred” has been a fact of their lives.

Pink-clad Cavaliers defeat Clemson

Garbed in pink jerseys, headbands and shoes to raise awareness for breast cancer and to honor former North Carolina State Coach Kay Yow, who passed away in 2009 after a 22-year fight against the disease, the Virginia women’s basketball team hosted Clemson Sunday.
