The Virginia swimming and diving teams completed their final tuneup before the ACC championships this weekend, with swimmers participating in the Virginia Tech Invitational and divers hosting the Cavalier Diving Invitational.

Men’s basketball hosts Louisville

Virginia’s next front-court challenge comes Saturday night, when defensive-minded Louisville rolls into town. The No. 8 Cardinals (19-3, 7-2 ACC) feature a potent backcourt combination in guards senior Chris Jones and sophomore Terry Rozier as well as one of the best big men in college basketball, junior forward Montrezl Harrell.

Margins of calamity

This past weekend in sports was one of the worst for me in a long time. The Virginia basketball team lost in a heartbreaker to Duke, and the New England Patriots — my least favorite team in football — won its fourth Super Bowl in 13 years. As much as I was angered by the outcomes of these two games, the manner in which those outcomes came about made it that much worse.

Men’s basketball pushes past No. 13 North Carolina, 75-64

Just 48 hours after coming up short at home against No. 4 Duke, the Virginia men’s basketball team defeated North Carolina 75-64 Monday night at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The No. 3 Cavaliers (20-1, 8-1 ACC) trailed by a point at halftime but steadily pulled away in the last 14 minutes to improve to 8-0 on the road in 2014-15.

Tajuan “Ty” Law played in the NFL for 15 years, was a five time Pro-Bowler and won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.

Women’s tennis edges No. 9 Georgia, 4-2

The Virginia women’s tennis team rallied for a 4-2 win against Georgia Monday night at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The No. 10 Cavaliers (4-1) lost the doubles point sweep-style before claiming four of five finished singles matches for their second straight victory against a ranked opponent.

Cavalier runners shatter records in Boston

Select members of the Virginia track and field team competed in Boston, Massachusetts at the John Thomas Terrier Classic over the weekend. Many East Coast schools participated in both field and running events, but the Cavaliers only took part in the latter.
