Brains, bagpipes and blocking — Virginia football’s Drake Metcalf does it all

One of Virginia's best offensive linemen is a renaissance man.
For the first time since 2008, Virginia has won the ACC men’s cross country championship –– the fifth conference title in program history.
The East Lake Cup brought four of golf’s powerhouse programs together for a one-day individual stroke play event, followed by two days of team match play.
Swanson’s milestone framed the night.
The last time Virginia has won a men’s ACC Championship in cross country was in 2008. This is likely their best chance to claim it.
“As the season goes on, those inches are much more difficult to capture.”
Beneath the eerie glow of the Scott Stadium lights and within the hallowed walls of John Paul Jones arena, some nights were better left forgotten.
Who exactly are these guys?
“Of course, Nilou in the back, [made] a few outstanding saves,” Keusgen said. “Unbelievable.”
Five people, three days a week, equating to around 80-plus hours of manpower — that is what it takes to paint the field at Scott Stadium.
While Virginia is showing promise in individual sets, it is still struggling to string together multiple sets.
Virginia dominated the whole way in a large field.
“On the run we’ve had, it was nice to get back, get a win and stabilize ourselves a bit as we prepare for our last home game,” Swanson said.
In a fiery, competitive atmosphere, Virginia came out on top on both the men’s and women’s sides, with the men eking out a one-point victory.
On Senior Day, the freshman forward hijacked the show.
“We’re gonna do a lot of hard stuff in November, together,” Garland said. “If they get through that, God willing, they’re going to be pretty battle-tested by the time January comes.”
“We’re going to play however long it takes,” Elliott said.
"You put me in any scenario, and I'll make sure we win.”
“For both teams to be in pressure situations there,” Odom said postgame, “invaluable experience."
These defenses may, understandably, have a tough time sleeping at night — there is plenty to fear about the four horsemen.
