Junior sprinter Jordan Lavender was the lone member of the Virginia Indoor Track & Field team to compete in the NCAA Championships last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M.

Virginia track and field concluded a weekend of stiff competition at the “Doc” Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet, competing among a field including two ranked men’s teams and three top-10 women’s teams. The meet featured several strong performances from Cavalier athletes, including a record-breaking effort in the 200-meter dash by junior Jordan Lavender.

The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field butted heads with some of the country’s best at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington, Ky.
In cold and muddy conditions, the No. 10 Virginia women placed ninth and the 22nd-ranked men finished 13th in Terre Haute, Ind.
As the 15-week fall season comes to a close, both the No. 22 men’s team and the No. 10 women’s team will compete against the nation’s best at Saturday’s NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Led by Zach Gates, Virginia finished 14th when they first attended the race in 2012.
The men’s and 11th-ranked women’s cross country teams both qualified for the NCAA Championships with strong performances at Panorama Farms. The women captured first place, beating No. 19 William & Mary while the men finished second with 96 points behind No. 17 Eastern Kentucky.
