DMB to play second show at stadium

After days of speculation and rumor, the Dave Matthews Band confirmed yesterday that it will give a second benefit concert at Scott Stadium on Sunday, April 22. At a press conference yesterday at the Omni Hotel downtown, Coran Capshaw, the band's general manager, said the band made the decision in the interest of raising more money for local charities and to allow more fans from out of town to attend. Most tickets for the first show on April 21 were sold March 3 during the pre-sale for local residents and few tickets remained for the general public.

Competition tests Commerce students' consulting talents.

While some students celebrated the start of the weekend Thursday night, 64 Commerce students competed for thousands of dollars in prize money from a national consulting firm. Last Thursday and Friday, aspiring businessmen and women participated in the second annual Navigant/McIntire Case Competition. The contest, sponsored by Navigant Consulting and the McIntire Consulting Group, presented 12 student teams with a real-life problem involving one of Navigant's clients, for which they had to devise a solution.

NIJ grant to fund DNA research for sexual assault cases

With a grant from the National Institute of Justice in Washington, researchers at the University Health System are looking to improve scientific techniques used to identify offenders in sexual assault cases. Richard Rau, NIJ senior program manager for forensic sciences, said the project aims to decrease the enormous backlog of forensic evidence sitting in crime laboratories. Cell biologists, with the aid of $300,000 in funding, are looking at ways to pull male sperm cells away from cells of the sexual assault victim.
