A Spanish Side Story

The University Spanish Theatre Group has been a labor of love for Spanish Prof. Fernando Operé for more than two decades, but when asked about the birth of the group, he seemed to shun the dramatic.

A Dumpling a Day

It is lunchtime on the Downtown Mall, and Chef Sun-Da is slicing cucumbers to toss into his sesame cold noodles.

Council announces winners of fall election

One day after the much-anticipated national midterm elections, the Student Council representative elections culminated yesterday evening with four new College representatives and one new Engineering representative. Wyatt Robinson, David Reid, Eli Dejarnette and Ruthie Yow emerged victorious in the College, while George McArthur triumphed as a write-in candidate from the Engineering school. Council President Micah Schwartz expressed satisfaction with the results of the elections. "It was a hard fought race," Schwartz said.

Under One Roof

Like many women living off Grounds at the University, Jessica Karr has a feminine bathroom. A floral shower curtain and matching bath mat decorate the bathtub and floor, perhaps making it easy for the third-year Commerce student to forget she shares this bathroom with her male roommate, Seth Rogers, a fourth-year College student.

Boutique Bonanza

It is a near-perfect day in downtown Charlottesville, and Chrissy Miller is spending it indoors. After all, she argues, she still can feel the warmth of the sun's rays through the windows of Eloise, where she is delicately tracing the pastel stripes of a CK Bradley belt between her thumb and forefinger. After deciding to add it to her collection, the fashion-conscious third-year College student grins when she notices Eloise's powder-blue guest book, inscribed with the words, "Play Dress Up." Miller isn't the only one who has fallen head-over-her-kitten-heels for chic boutiques like Eloise, Scarpa, O'Suzannah and Dixie Divas.

Crossing Borders

Twelve time-zones removed from her American hometown, Kristen Tracz encouraged a class of 50 Chinese children to choose English names for themselves.

Familiar Territory

F luorescent frisbees whirling past sun-tanned students. Puppies frolicking past dis- cussion sections seated in the shade of the trees.

School Ties

Both inside and out, George Rogers Clark School possesses all of the characteristics of the average American elementary school.

Living the language

Anxious first years must learn to cope with the moldy showers of Old Dorms and upperclassmen endure the walk to Grounds from distant residences like Gooch or Bice.

Easy Access

Staring at a blonde, beefcake model, his dreamy eyes transfixed on a faraway point, we wonder what this has anything to do with clothes.
