University Institute of World Languages commences second annual film series

The University Institute of World Languages kicked off its second film series Wednesday, an effort which will feature a host of movies — each in a different language with English subtitles — over the course of the semester. The Institute began the series with a panel discussion, featuring scenes from movies pertaining to diverse global filmic encounters.

ArtInPlace brings public art to Charlottesville

Twenty sculptures line public plots on Charlottesville roads, a culmination of the city's effort to make art more publically accessible. The sculptures — 10 permanent structures and 10 placed for a one-year period — are hosted by ArtInPlace, a non-profit corporation which has been working since 2001.

Student Council holds midterm voter drive

Student Council has held a voter registration drive in recent weeks to garner attention about next month’s midterm elections. Student Council’s Legislative Affairs Committee designed the drive to make voter registration as easy and simple as possible for students, who typically have low turnout in midterm elections.

First-Year Council elections ongoing

The first year class will vote this week to elect a class president and members of the First Year Council (FYC). The University Board of Elections (UBE) oversees the election, along with most student representative elections on grounds, said Krishna Korupolu, third-year College student and Chair of the UBE.
