New pill promises hangover relief

It is possible that many a drinker's dream has come true with the announcement of a natural, over-the-counter drug that prevents hangovers. ATP, which stands for "after the party," is a new way to recover from a night of debauchery.

Derived from natural herbs from India, the pill works with the brain and bloodstream to break down alcohol as it is consumed.

"Millions of men and women are visiting bars for happy hour, attending company parties, family and class reunions and are experiencing a morning after they would like to forget," said Stanley Barnes, senior vice president of international sales at PVL International.

The company, formed in 1991, is responsible for manufacturing cosmetic, medical and nutritional supplies.

PVL International has been working to develop ATP since last February.

Part of their research was based on a drug that uses similar ingredients, developed by Russia in the 1950s. The pill is actually a combination of six tablets that form an effective reliever for the liver and the brain.

The ideal way to administer the pill is to take two tablets before drinking, two tablets before sleeping, and two tablets the following morning. When going to the restroom the following morning, the body will simply relieve itself of all impurities, Barnes said.

The second alternative is to consume all six tablets the following morning for a quick rejuvenation of the body. The body will return to normal after about 30 to 45 minutes, he said.

"You could drink a whole liquor store and never get a hangover with ATP," he added.

Barnes said the drug has absolutely no side effects and so far has better than a 97 percent success rate.

PVL International is currently establishing worldwide distribution for the drug.

"We hope to sell mostly in convenience and grocery stores, and especially at college campuses," he said.

A representative from the Student Health Center said that they had no knowledge of any such drug on the market.

"We've never heard of it," she said. "And we don't give any medication to treat hangovers."
