FSU suspends Warrick for theft

Heisman Trophy hopeful Peter Warrick was suspended indefinitely from the Florida State football team yesterday following his arrest on felony theft charges.

Warrick and teammate Laveranues Coles allegedly conspired with Dillard's department store clerk Rachel Myrtil and underpaid for clothes at the store by $391.

Myrtil was charged with letting Warrick and Coles buy $412.38 worth of clothing for $21.40 Sept. 29. An off-duty officer saw what happened through a surveillance camera, according to police.

Warrick, Coles and Myrtil were arrested for grand theft.

Coles and Warrick, both wide receivers for the Seminoles, turned themselves in at the Leon Country Jail yesterday and were freed without bond. Each could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Warrick, an All-American senior, has 36 catches for 508 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Coles has 12 catches for 179 yards and one touchdown.

Coles, a senior who has had previous legal and academic troubles, was dismissed from the football team.

With both starting receivers sidelined for tomorrow's game against the University of Miami, the Seminoles most likely will turn to senior Ron Dugans, who has 14 catches for 259 yards and a touchdown, and junior Marvin Minnis, who has two catches for 25 yards.
