Tasting Charlottesville

The way to any college student's heart is through the stomach. The Alumni Association hopes to capitalize on this by luring about 1,000 students to Alumni Hall tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. to recruit lifetime members with the second annual Taste of Charlottesville.

Ten local restaurants will give free food to any student who now is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association. Other students, who agree to join the Association, also can participate in the event.

To join the Association while still a student, one must agree to pay dues after graduation.

"We like to have these events to thank people for their support and to get everyone together," said Helen Dwyer, assistant director of membership and 1992 University alumna.

Rococo's is among the 10 participating restaurants. For the event, the restaurant plans to offer ravioli and key lime pie.

"We won't necessarily serve finger food. We will serve tastes of food," said Cynthia Smith, catering director for Northern Exposure, Inc.

Other participating restaurants include the Biltmore Grill, Thai! and Rapture.
