Odds and Ends

Welcome to the real world

Last Thursday's MTV's Real World/Road Rules College Tour, sponsored by Hereford College and the Second-Year Council, was not as successful as sponsors had anticipated.

"We expect the show to be sold out," said Prince Agarwal, second-year College student and Council representative, prior to the opening of the show. The auditorium in Old Cabell Hall was less than half-full, failing to meet the planners' expectations. It seemed that in the real world, "The Real World" did not fare so well.

There were several reasons for the low turnout, but one of the most commonly cited was that the price of the tickets was a little steep: $10 in advance and $12 at the door, according to Second-Year Class President April Shimshock.

The cast of the Cabell Hall show featured a full cross-section of members of previous casts of "The Real World" and "Road Rules," including Ruthie, the former alcoholic who suffered from alcohol poisoning on the Real World Hawaii.

The show was an open forum for discussion - a no-holds-barred opportunity for fans to ask their favorite Real World and Road Rules stars anything.

"I feel like I know them: it's like you're meeting your best friends," first-year College student Catherine Cockerham said.

The Second-Year Council paid $13,000 for the all-star cast.
