MTV hits the road

For the second time this year, MTV will be making an appearance on Grounds. This Thursday, students will be able to interact with six former cast members of Real World and Road Rules - but hurry, because tomorrow is the last day to get tickets for the event.

The guests will include Sean, Rachel and Ruthie of "The Real World" Boston, San Francisco and Hawaii, respectively. Ayanna, Timmy and Susie, of "Road Rules" Semester at Sea, Road Rules America and Road Rules Australia, respectively, also will appear.

Second Year Council, in conjunction with Hereford College, is sponsoring the event, which will include never before seen clips of "The Real World" and "Road Rules". Discussion will follow the presentation.

"Each member will talk about a different issue. For example, Ruthie could talk about alcohol, and some other people might talk about HIV," said Second Year Council President April Shimshock.

After the discussion, the audience can ask the cast members questions.

"The audience will be able to ask anything. They can ask about the show, or they can ask more personal questions," Shimshock said.

After the audience discussion, there will be a reception, where students will be able to get cast members' autographs or speak to them one on one.

This "Real World" and "Road Rules" event is the result of months of planning, which began last summer. "We contacted Brad Joffey productions - the agency that runs [Real World and Road Rules College Tour]. We told them what we were looking for, what kinds of issues we thought students at U.Va. would be interested in," Shimshock said.

Second Year Council has estimated that it has spent a total of $13,000 to bring the Tour to Grounds, Shimshock said.
