Virginia men's lacrosse player David Jenkins was named Division I Player of the Week for his instrumental role in helping the Cavaliers claim their second straight ACC championship over the weekend.
In addition to scoring two goals, the junior midfielder won 72 percent of his faceoffs in wins over North Carolina and Maryland. His faceoff dominance was crucial in the championship game against Maryland, when he helped the Cavs win all 11 faceoffs in the second half and stave off a Terp rally.
Jenkins also registered a season-high record for Virginia with 13 ground balls in each of two victories.
Robinson gets picked
Virginia women's basketball's Renee Robinson was selected in the fourth round of the WNBA draft Tuesday. The senior guard was picked with the 58th overall selection by the Indiana Fever, an expansion franchise.

Robinson, a second team All-ACC honoree this season, averaged 9.7 points for the Cavaliers in her senior year and was named to the ACC All-defensive team.
Rain spoils baseball, softball
Virginia's baseball and softball teams both had their Tuesday games cancelled because of rain. The baseball team may reschedule its match-up with UNC- Greensboro as a doubleheader Wednesday if the players' academic schedules permit.
The softball team was scheduled to faced Mount St. Mary's in a doubleheader, which was cancelled. The softball team will return to action Wednesday against East Carolina.
Marlin activists
Four baseball players with the Florida Marlins boycotted their game Tuesday night in protest of the U.S. government's treatment of the Elián Gonzalez situation. Third baseman Mike Lowell and pitchers Alex Fernandez, Vladimir Nunez and Michael Tejera, as well as several Marlin coaches, were supported in their protest by the team's management. The team's front office, located in Miami, was sympathetic to the player protesters and excused them with pay for the game against San Francisco.
By sitting out the contest, the players and coaches were responding to a call by Cuban-Americans for a protest against the manner in which Elian was forcefully taken from his Miami relatives to be returned to his father.
