Making waves

The University's radio station WTJU-FM 91.1 has moved from the basement of Peabody Hall into a new studio at Lambeth Commons. All organizations previously located in Peabody Hall were relocated during its renovation. The move took place during the weekend of July 13th and is an ongoing process, but they are "doing very well," said WTJU Business Manager Jane McDonald. "We're very pleased with the new space."

U-Union face lift

University Union, the student-run committee that plans entertainment activities, officially changed its name to University Programs Council July 1.

"It's basically a turning point in the history of the organization," said Meg Wang, UPC Marketing Coordinator.

Various reasons factored into the decision for a new name, according to Wang. One of the most prominent of these was a significant name recognition problem.

"No one really knew what University Union did," Wang said.

The organization has 10 programming committees that focus on various aspects of developing programming for the University community, such as short courses, speakers, performing arts events, the annual Gusburger eat-off and gallery exhibits.

Recruitment for new members also was down significantly during the 1999-2000 school year, partly prompting the change, according to Wang.
