Cav women gear up for Terrapins

Thank heavens for George Washington.

Six days ago the Virginia women's soccer team was frustrated after an oh-so-close 2-1 loss to No. 2 Clemson. Now, after Tuesday's 7-0 win against George Washington, the Cavaliers are riding high as they head to College Park to face Maryland tonight at 7.

In Tuesday's blowout win, the No. 15 Cavs (6-5, 2-1 ACC) dominated all aspects of the game and rendered the Colonials virtually ineffective. Freshman forward Sarah Lane and sophomore defender Kelly Worden both scored two goals.

"I was pleased with the way we played overall," Virginia coach Steve Swanson said. "Whenever you get a win it kind of reinforces the things you're doing. There's been a great deal of progress, and at the end of the day I think that's what counts."

The Terrapins (5-6, 0-3) face Virginia tonight with a different perspective. They have dropped four of their last five games, including a tight 1-0 loss to N.C. State Sunday.
