Women's lacrosse topples Temple in solid road victory

Led by sisters Lacey and Lauren Aumiller, who had four goals apiece, the No. 10 Virginia women's lacrosse team defeated Temple, 17-8, in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Senior midfielders Jill Hansen and Jamie Haas also added three goals and seven assists to help Virginia (6-4) control the game and Cavalier defender Lauri Kenis had eight ground balls and caused five turnovers.

Just five minutes into the game Lauren Aumiller put the Cavaliers up by a goal. Though Temple answered with a goal of its own two minutes later, Virginia resounded with three goals in a span of 1:15 to take a lead it did not relinquish.

In the second half, Temple managed comeback when it scored three goals in 2:02, but the Cavaliers again answered Temple by scoring three of the four final goals of the game to make the final score 17-8.

Softball splits games at UNC, ECU

The Virginia softball team took its 13-game winning streak on the road this weekend and turned up with a 2-1 loss at North Carolina on Saturday and a 2-1 win at East Carolina on Sunday after the game was rescheduled from its original time on Friday because of inclment weather.

In the bottom of the ninth inning North Carolina broke a 1-1 tie to defeat Virginia, 2-1, in Chapel Hill on Saturday to take the first game of a doubleheader.
