The Virginia men's and women's swimming teams opened their ACC seasons this weekend with wins in Clemson, S.C. Both teams notched victories over Clemson, and the women's team also posted a win over Rice.

The men's team (2-0) had a 148-89 win over Clemson, and the women's team (3-0) grabbed a 155-87 victory over the Tigers and a 133.5-70.5 win over Rice.

Cavalier sophomore Luke Anderson led the men's team, winning both the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 1:40.80 and the 100 free with a time of 45.92. The men's team took 11 out of 13 total events.

The women's team took nine of 13 events in defeating Clemson and Rice. Cavalier swimmers, sophomores Amy Baly and Carlie Dykehouse, and diver, junior Alison Sharp led Virginia with two wins each in individual events.

Baly won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:03.48 and the 500 free in 4:56.89. Dykehouse won the 200 free with a time of 1:51.36 and the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:03.79. Sharp swept the two diving events, scoring 255.90 points in the one-meter competition and 259.28 points in the three-meter event.

Cavaliers finish strong at ACC championships

Cavalier Jennifer Owens led the No. 15 Virginia women's cross country team to a third place finish at the ACC cross country championships in Clemson, S.C. on Saturday. Owens finished with a time of 21:09.5, earning her all-ACC honors.

Fellow Cavalier Sarah Folse finished 11th in a time of 21:42.2. No. 6 North Carolina State and No. 11 North Carolina finished ahead of Virginia.

The Virginia men's team took fourth at the meet, led by sophomore Walton Kingsberry who finished 13th in 25:04.4. No. 6 N.C. State, No. 17 Duke and No. 21 Wake Forest finished ahead of Virginia.
