Record-breaking freshman Crippen named ACC men's swimmer of the week
After winning two events, setting a pool record in the 1,000-meter freestyle, and helping Virginia defeat South Carolina 129-109 on Oct. 26, Virginia freshman Francis Crippen was named the conference's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. In the dual meet win over the Gamecocks, Crippen broke junior teammate Ian Prichard's Aquatic & Fitness Center record in the 1,000-meter freestyle with a time of 8:59.53. His time was only .41 behind the school record of 8:59.12, which Prichard holds.
In addition to his record-breaking win, Crippen also won the 500-meter freestyle in 4:26.45, finishing more than six seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Virginia returns to the pool this weekend when Duke comes to Charlottesville to square off against the Cavaliers in a dual meet at the AFC.
Borski honored as ACC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Darci Borski's three goals in two Virginia wins last week earned the senior forward ACC Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors. Borski opened the week scoring a late goal in Virginia's 2-0 victory over Duke, the team's first conference win of the season. In the Cavaliers' Oct. 26 match against Wake Forest, Borski scored both Virginia goals, leading the team to a 2-1 upset of the No. 14 team in the nation.
The three goals gave Borski eight goals for the season and 17 points for the season. Additionally, her three goals moved her into Virginia's top ten for career goals and points. Borski's 69 career points and 27 career goals place her ninth on each list.
