Men's lacrosse announces schedule, captains
The men's lacrosse team and Coach Dom Starsia announced yesterday the team's schedule and captains for the 2003 season. The schedule features games against three of last season's final four teams from the NCAA Tournament. Defenseman Ned Bowen, midfielders Chris Rotelli and A.J. Bowen, a senior from Chappaqua, N.Y., received the team's Most Improved Player award after amassing a career-high 30 ground balls last season. Rotelli, a senior from Rumford, R.I., was the only Cavalier named first-team All-American last season.
He scored 24 goals last season in addition to a career-high 10 assists. Shannon, a senior from Whitby, Ontario, was named honorable mention All-American last season. He recorded 25 goals and 10 assists, both career highs, and ranked sixth in the ACC with 1.67 goals per game.
Whitty, a senior from Lutherville, Md., finished second in the ACC with 77 ground balls, the most ever for a Virginia long-stick midfielder and good for 26th in the nation.
