Cavs win rain-shortened Tar Heel Invitational

The Cavalier softball team came away with the Tar Heel Invitational title by virtue of their two wins Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

In the first day of competition, Virginia defeated Hawaii, 8-7, and East Carolina, 5-1. Virginia was scheduled to play UNC on the second day of competition, but that game and the championship were rained out. Virginia's two victories were enough to earn them the tournament title.

Sophomore Sara Laquier was named the tournament MVP, as she hit .600 and belted a home run.
