NFL owners turn down overtime proposal

NFL owners voted down a proposal yesterday to amend the NFL's overtime rules that would give each team a possession in the period. The proposal fell seven votes short. The owners also voted to delay the discussion on expanding the NFL's playoff system from 12 to 14 teams.

The current overtime system that the league uses is a sudden death format where the first team to score wins the game. The format has been called into question after a record 25 overtime games last season where the team that scored first won 58 percent of the time.
