Everything in its 'Wright' place: Rufus debuts new material during Old Cabell solo performace

Rufus Wainwright nervously stumbled onto the intimate stage of Cabell Hall Friday night looking like any of the gawky students in the crowd, but soon he comanded the stage with a surprisingly dynamic presence, wit and even sass. Performing solo on both piano and accoustic guitar, Wainwright confidentley tore through selections from his jaunty eponymous debut and the elegant, understated 'Poses.'

Wainwright stripped many of the songs off his new 'Want One' and the upcoming 'Want Two' of their embellished, lavish decoration and distilled them to their gorgeous melodies. Few since Jeff Buckley have been able to combine such a powerful, pure voice with a keen lyrical craft and musical gleam.
