Hammond receives honors

Virginia women's soccer midfielder Kelly Hammond was honored with two national awards this week. Hammond was named to the Soccer American Team of the Week as well as the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week.

Hammond was recognized for her role in Virginia's Sept. 26 7-0 victory over N.C. State. In that game, she was crucial to Virginia's attack, netting two goals and tallying five points.

Hammond, a sophomore, is leading the Cavaliers with seven goals and 18 points.She has also notched five game winning goals this season.

This honor marks the second time this season that Hammond has been named to the Soccer America Team of the Week. She was previously honored for her role in helping the Cavaliers win the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic. It was the first time of Hammond's career that she was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the week.
