Tight end Field commits to Virginia football team

Virginia football announced its latest verbal commitment for the 2005 recruiting class Monday, as Broad Run High School junior tight end Alex Field committed to the Cavaliers.

This past season, the 6'6" 248-pound Field excelled at both the tight end and defensive end positions at Broad Run, located in Ashburn, Va.

At defensive end, he compiled 11 quarterback sacks and was a unanimous choice for first-team defensive end accolades. He also was chosen as the Dulles District's Defensive Player of the Year.

In addition to his defensive honors, Field was a unanimous choice for the district's first-team offense at the tight end position. He was noted for his exceptional blocking skills and his ability to catch the ball.

Field is the third high school junior to commit to Virginia for the 2005-2006 season. He joins quarterback Vicqual Hall of Gretna, Va., and 6'5" wide receiver Maurice Covington of Durham, N.C., who both committed in October
