Virginia dropped to 9-5 on the season, losing a pair of games yesterday after opening their weekend in Houston winning two of their first three.
Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Cavaliers concluded their weekend with a 3-2 loss to Villanova yesterday afternoon. The Wildcats scored twice in the seventh inning to secure victory. Earlier in the day, the Cavaliers were shutout by Mississippi State, 5-0.
Virginia opened the weekend with a 3-1 victory over BYU. After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth inning, the Cavaliers pulled ahead for good on sophomore second baseman Sara Larquier's two-run, fifth-inning single.
The Cavaliers came from behind to beat Pittsburgh 5-3 in the early game on Saturday. Senior first baseman Hannah Owings launched a home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at two. Senior shortstop Heather Field followed up Owings' four-bagger with one of her own, drilling a three-run home run to give the Cavaliers a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Virginia fell to host Houston 4-1 in the second game of the day.
