Men's soccer seeded fourth for NCAA tournament

The Cavaliers were awarded the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAA soccer tournament beginning next week. Virginia earned the seed after rolling through the 2004 ACC championship to win the tournament for the second straight year, rising to No. 4 in the national rankings.

The squad starts tournament play Tuesday, Nov. 23 against Long Island at Klöckner Stadium. They will retain home field advantage until the semifinals. The College Cup will be held on Dec. 10 and 12 and will take place in Carson, Calif.

Last year, the Cavaliers made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The last time Virginia reached the semifinals of the NCAAs was in 1997, when they fell in the final to UCLA.
