The Virginia men's tennis team's perfect ACC record remained untarnished this weekend, as the Cavaliers (16-2, 4-0 ACC) notched a 6-1 victory over the No. 25 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Sunday. Strong doubles performances from Darrin Cohen, Doug Stewart, Rylan Rizza and Nick Meythaler gave Virginia an early 1-0 lead. The Cavaliers extended that lead with singles points by Cohen, Trey Huey, Somdev Devarrman, Marko Miklo and Rizza. Wake Forest's sole point came from Derrick Spice's upsetvictory (7-6, 6-2) over the Cavaliers' No. 1 singles player, Doug Stewart.
The victory over Wake Forest came two days after Virginia dispatched No. 37 N.C. State, 7-0. The Cavaliers were fueled by solid performances from all contributing players. Devarrman clinched the match for Virginia with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Will Hall at No. 3 singles. Stewart completed the shut-out with a three-set victory over Nick Cavaday (0-6, 7-5, 6-2). Thursday at 3:30, the Cavaliers will host William & Mary at the Snyder Tennis Center.
