Women's Basketball earns first-round bye in ACC Tournament

The Virginia women's basketball team received a No. 5 seed to the 2005 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, which begins on Thursday in Greensboro, N.C. The Cavaliers (19-9) are set to tip off against the No. 4 seed Florida State Seminoles (23-6) in Saturday's quarterfinal round. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be televised on the Regional Sports Network.

The first five seeds in the tournament receive first-round byes under the new system devised by the ACC to accommodate conference newcomers Miami and Virginia Tech. If the Cavaliers defeat FSU, they will move on to a semifinal match Sunday at 1 p.m. This game would likely pit the Cavs against the No. 1 seed North Carolina Tar Heels. The conference championship game will be held Monday evening, at 7:30 p.m. All games will be played on the floor of the Greensboro Coliseum.
