Madison named new field hockey coach

The University of Virginia announced yesterday that it has hired Michele Madison to coach the field hockey team.

Madison was previously the head coach at Michigan State, where she leaves as the school's all-time leader in victories.

Her 17-year coaching career also includes a coaching job at Temple. She has a 208-143-3 career record.

The Cavaliers suffered through a disappointing season in 2005, going 8-11 with a 0-5 mark in ACC play. In mid-December, head coach Jess Wilk resigned with a 78-66 record in seven seasons at Virginia.
