Bejeweling the Jewels

What do ears, noses and genitals have in common? They can all be pierced! It seems as if anywhere skin or cartilage protrudes, people have found a way to pierce it. Piercing seems to be the easy to hide, less permanent form of expression for the creative, trendy or simply rebellious. Others use it as a form of therapy or catharsis.

"I'm not the kind of kid that someone would go 'oh she's got a lot of piercings,'" said fourth-year Architecture student Carol Schiflett. She said she has multiple piercings but removed her under-the-belt piercing for practical reasons.

"It caught on things" she said, adding "the jewelry itself was uncomfortable." Carol explained her decision to get pierced saying, "I had several friends who went to get tattoos and I wasn't into the permanency of being tattooed, so I just decided to do it, I guess." Shiflett added, "if you want to do something a little crazy but not as permanent, I would definitely say go for it
