Alston released from prison after serving sentence for voluntary manslaughter Former University student Andrew Alston was released from prison yesterday. Alston was handed a three year sentence on Nov. 10, 2004 for the stabbing death of Albemarle County Firefighter Walker Sisk, 22.
Alston served his sentence at the Botetourt Correctional Center in Troutville, according to his lawyer, John Zwerling.
In Virginia it is typical for inmates to serve only about 85 percent of their time, which is why Alston is being released 5 months early, according to Zwerling.
During the first year of his incarceration, Alston was kept in solitary confinement for his own protection because friends of Sisk, who were also at the correctional facility, attacked him, Zwerling said.
Alston plans on returning home to Philadelphia area, Zwerling said, where he will be living with family members and hopes to continue his education and obtain counseling.
