The University's Communications Office launched a new University Web site yesterday.
Web Communications Director Nancy Tramontin said she and her colleagues had two goals in mind when designing the page.
"One [goal] was to be able to offer new links directly from the homepage, and the other was to offer a seed for University news and announcements" Tramontin said.
Senior Web Developer Jonelle Kinback said the office faced several technical challenges when creating the new Web site. She said the office "had some concerns with expanding the width of the page."
"We know that computers are getting wider, but we didn't want to leave anyone out who uses public or old computers" said Kinback.
According to Tramontin, Web developers took into consideration 2,000 responses to an online survey that had been up for two weeks. The survey allowed respondents to give their preferences for Web site design and make suggestions for improvement to the page.
Kinback said he and his colleagues aimed to address these responses when creating the page.
"The more changes made that users wanted, the more I liked the page," Kinback added.
