A month of glorious mayhem

Remember sneaking around during breaks between periods in high school to catch a few minutes of an NCAA tourney game on television, and if you were lucky, seeing a last second buzzer beater? Some of you diehards may have even called in sick so you could watch a whole slate of the opening round games.

It's March Madness, baby. The NCAA college basketball tournament is finally upon us with first round games slated to begin Thursday and Friday.

Sans the NFL playoffs, these next three weeks are arguably the best parts of the sports calendar.

Sixty-four college basketball teams (65, including both play-in teams) spanning the entire country will compete for their lives in 63 contests within just 19 days. From this Thursday through Sunday alone, there will be 48 basketball games played. Talk about a brain overload.

It's the chance for schools from the unknown conferences to claim a spot on national television by pulling off an upset or even stringing together several victories to become a Cinderella story and national phenom
