The Educational Testing Service announced Monday that it has canceled plans for overhauling the Graduate Record Examination. The new GRE would have replaced computer-based testing with Internet-based testing and would have lasted four hours and 20 minutes, according to ETS spokesperson Tom Ewing.
"The reason we canceled the launch of new GRE is because of access," Ewing said. "After considerable study, we found that there simply would not be enough [access to Internet-based testing centers] in order to do so."
ETS will to continue to offer testing at a computer-based center 250 days a year instead of the planned 35 days a year.
ETS is not anticipating any changes in testing for 2007-2008.
"ETS might make some improvements in future, but its going to be very gradual and not at one time," said Ewing.
