Students face felony charges for stealing Hokie Bird statue

Nine University students now face felony charges for stealing a Hokie Bird statue in Blacksburg, Va. in March.

The nine male students stole the statue, valued at around $7,500, during the weekend of March 24, said Capt. Bruce Bradbery of the Blacksburg Police department. The statue was returned a few days later.

According to Blacksburg Police the students were charged with destruction of property, which is considered a felony.

Bradbery said four of the students turned themselves in on May 7 while the rest did so on May 9.

The case is currently awaiting trial.
