Who says war never solves anything?
The University Inter-Fraternity Council led the Greek-sponsored Crimson War Blood Drive against the University of Maryland last week, resulting in another defeat for the Terrapins.
"We won by a lot," IFC Community Service Chairman Joe O'Brien said, adding that University students donated 867 total units in the annual blood drive competition.
This total trumped the previous state record for blood donations of 824, the total donated during last year's Crimson War.
O'Brien added that University students participating in Greek life contributed 300 of this year's 867 units.
The units of blood that University students donated will benefit Virginia Blood Services, O'Brien said.
IFC President Charlie Morgan noted the high turnout among University students for the blood drive.
"We're very excited about the turnout for the blood drive," Morgan said. "It utilized one of the Greek system's greatest resources, which is just pure numbers."
O'Brien said Bonnycastle won the first-year dormitory competition, winning a pizza party.
"It was a great kickoff for Greek Weekend to get the whole Greek community united toward one cause," Morgan said.
