University Police responded to reports of a break-in and vandalism at Rouss Hall, currently under construction, early Friday morning, according to University Police Lt. Melissa Fielding.
"There was damage to the structure throughout the building," Fielding said, estimating damages to about $10,000.
Jo Lawson, project director for Rouss Hall, said the attack was "pure vandalism."
"They broke glass with their hands, there was blood spatter ... doors were kicked in, and there were Coke cans," Lawson said. "They shook the Coke cans and sprayed them all over the walls. Needless to say, it's really disheartening when you have to go and clean up after the stupid actions of some people."
Lawson said she was relieved, at least to some degree, about the type of damage.
"It's fully repairable," Lawson said.
Fielding said police officials actively are investigating the incident but would not confirm whether any suspects have been named in the case. There is believed to be no motive for the vandalism.
