Virginia goes undefeated during break

The Virginia women's basketball team went undefeated during Winter Break, going an impressive 7-0 to improve its record to 13-4 overall and 2-0 in the ACC. The Cavaliers claimed victories at home against Davidson (Dec. 20, 83-68), Delaware State (Dec. 28, 71-54), Marshall (Dec. 29, 78-56), Rhode Island (Jan. 9, 89-53) and Virginia Tech (Jan. 13, 70-57). The team was 2-0 on the road, winning at Rider 98-51 and at Wake Forest in its ACC opener 69-50.

The wins against Delaware State and Marshall came in the Marriott Cavalier Classic. Virginia won the tournament, and sophomore guard Monica Wright was named the most valuable player. Junior forward Lyndra Littles also made the all-tournament team.

Virginia has also won nine of its last 10 and is on an eight-game home winning streak, the team's longest ever in John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers' home record this year is 9-1.

Three Cavalier starters are averaging in double figures: Wright (17.6 points per game), Littles (15.9 ppg) and junior center Aisha Mohammed (12.6 ppg). Mohammed is not far from averaging a double-double -- the junior also grabs 9.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Paulisha Kellum is nearly in double figures as well, putting up an average of 9.8 points per game. The fifth Virginia starter, senior guard Sharneé Zoll, is dishing out 5.1 assists per game and scoring 8.1 points per game.

Virginia faces No. 4 Maryland at home Friday night at 7.
