Men's tennis remains undefeated

The Virginia men's tennis team preserved its undefeated record this weekend, shutting out No. 32 VCU 7-0 at home Friday and defeating Michigan on the road 5-2 Sunday.

No. 1 senior Somdev Devvarman, No. 12 senior Treat Huey, freshman Sanam Singh, No. 83 sophomore Houston Barrick and senior Ted Angelinos all won both of their singles matches during the weekend. The top-ranked duo of Devvarman and Huey was the lone Virginia doubles' team to win both its matches.

The Cavaliers (5-0) had no trouble taking care of VCU Friday, taking five of six singles matches in straight sets. Virginia did encounter some resistance in the doubles portion of the match, as two of the three doubles matches went to a tiebreaker. Though the Rams won one of the two tiebreakers, the Cavaliers won the other. This win, coupled with Devarrman and Huey's convincing 8-2 doubles victory, earned Virginia the doubles point.

Against Michigan, the Cavaliers also had trouble in doubles, this time resulting in the Wolverines gaining the point. After Devarrman and Huey won their match 9-7, the No. 17 tandem of Angelinos and sophomore Lee Singer lost 8-5, and No. 28 freshman Michael Shabaz and Singh suffered a 9-8 (2) defeat. Virginia recovered, however, to win five of the six singles matches en route to the victory.

Virginia has another doubleheader this weekend in Charlottesville, as it takes on No. 48 Kentucky Friday and No. 75 Harvard Sunday.
