MyUVa online portal to be redesigned

The MyUVa portal is scheduled for a facelift, according to Michael McPherson, University deputy chief information officer.

McPherson said the change will simplify the unnecessary complexities of the existing system.

"MyUVa is currently using a technology which lets you take a lot of little pieces and glue them together on [a] single Web page ... but it's more complex than we really need," he said, noting that many features go unused.

McPherson added that while the technology behind the site is changing, MyUVa will still be available to students and other community members, albeit with some cosmetic changes.

"In the long run, the thing that everyone knows as MyUVa will be replaced by the PeopleSoft Campus Community portal, which the University has purchased to replace ISIS," McPherson said.

According to McPherson, PeopleSoft Campus Community is an elaborate self-service portal that will be rolled out over the next two years. The new system is expected to be completely functional by the end of 2009, he said.
