Track and field performs well at Virginia Tech

The Virginia track and field team gave a solid performance at the Virginia Tech Challenge, which ended Saturday. The Cavaliers garnered? several top finishes,including 17 season-best performances. The top performances for both the men and the women came in the mile. The women's mile featured five Cavaliers placing in the top eight, led by senior Suzanne Ginnow finishing second with a time of 4:58.93. Ginnow was followed by junior Lauretta Dezubay, who took third and sophomore Diana Burk, who took sixth. Ginnow, Dezubay and Burk all posted season-best times. Dezubay's time of 4:59.48was also a personal best. Senior Huma Husain took fourth place in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:12.67 to lead the Cavaliers in middle distances. Freshman Assiata Williams, who tied a personal best in the high jump, and junior Alexa Manning, who competed in the shot put, had solid performances in the field, finishing third in their respective events.

The men's mile featured junior Andrew Jesien, who finished second with a time of 4:06.10 and junior Andy Biladeau, who finished third with a time of 4:06.83. Jesien and Biladeau, along with five Cavaliers, led the way for the men by placing near the top of their respective event. Sophomore Trey Miller rounded out the top men's individual performances of the day by finishing third in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 8:26.95. The men's 4x400 relay team was able to put together a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:14.52. The Cavaliers will look to take their momentum from the meet into Thursday's ACC Indoor Championships at Chapel Hill, N.C.
