The Virginia men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a productive trip to New York City this weekend, as 14 Cavaliers placed seventh or better in their respective events at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
Notable performances came from senior Kara Scanlin, who won the women's 3000-meter with a personal best time of 9:44.85, and senior Billie Jo Grant, who won the shot put event while setting a new Virginia women's indoor track and field shot put record with a 16.14-meter toss. In the men's shot put, junior Yemi Ayeni set another Virginia indoor track and field record with a throw of 17.63 meters, finishing second in the event.
Both the men's and women's 4 x 800 meter relay teams had strong showings, with the men's team running a season-best time of 7:40.62, and the women's team finishing in fifth place with a time of 9:09.39.
The Cavaliers will spend the upcoming off-weekend looking toward to the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg Feb. 22 and 23.
